WHAT IS BIKE WORKS?
Bike
Works, located in Columbia City, has been
working for kids, bikes, and community since
1996. Our programs invest in youth, promote
bicycling as a clean and healthy transportation
alternative and form of life-long exercise, and
provide affordable bicycle services to the
community.
Bike Works'
mission: To build sustainable communities by
educating youth and promoting bicycling.

•
Earn-A-Bike: Our core program in
which youth ages 9-17 learn hands-on bicycle
repair over eight class sessions. They then
swap community service hours for their own
recycled cycle by refurbishing bikes that are
donated to organizations serving disadvantaged
populations. Upon completion of the program,
students receive a lock and helmet, and are
deeply invested in their bicycle.
•
Youth Ventures Bike Club: Earn-A-Bike graduates
help design and lead club activities, including
BMX rides, mountain biking, safety rodeos, and
the building of specialty "chopper" bikes.
•
Bicycle Passports: Youth are encouraged
to bike for transportation by rewarding them
with points for bicycling on their own outside
of Bike Works activities, with extra points for
engaging family members and friends.
•
Summer Bike Camps: Bicycle day camps
include basic and advanced bicycle repair,
safety instruction, field trips daily rides,
and multi-day, self-supported touring trips.
