THE
AUSTIN
FOUNDATION
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
The Austin Foundation is a nonprofit
organization that provides fitness training and
health education and nutrition awareness
programs to youth in the greater Seattle area.
In 1994, Willie Austin, former University of
Washington football player and world power
lifting champion, started the Youth &
Fitness training program at the Gateway
Athletic Club, with the goal of exposing youth
to fitness activities and caring adult
trainers.
The Austin Foundation also fosters community
education by encouraging family participation
in all of its fitness programs, by
participating in community health events, and
by actively advocating for community policies
and practices that promote healthy lifestyles.

My 3 year old daughter doesn’t know any other way.
We believe in “Leadership By Example”
She asks for fruit and veggies and she will tell her friends that it's bad for them when they eat candy.
I’m a trainer here (Austin Foundation Youth and Fitness) so we advocate fitness.
My daughter is already doing push ups, leg lifts, etc. She’ll tell her friends to come and exercise.
Make simple changes: eating real food rather than processed, and having a balance of the right carbs, protein and fat. This will satisfy your appetite.
-Eat small meals
-Repetition is important: take small steps.
-Keep a food journal for a week and see what and when you eat.
For example, my Pastor was being given all sorts of good home cooking and started gaining weight. We talked about eating in moderation and exercising. On Sundays he now talks about fitness and about having alternatives in how you eat and live. We have gym equipment in the church now for people to use.
It started in the beginning as soon as my son came home from the hospital.
Whatever was in the house was what you ate. There wasn’t any unhealthy food around.
My son is now 13 years old, and he doesn’t like fast food. If he asks to go to a fast food place, I’ll take him but he won’t eat burgers, mostly chicken.
Like I said it starts at an early age.
Otieno – If you’re gonna eat you might as well eat right
Marissa: Instead of fruit snacks eat real fruit
Marissa: Instead of boxed cereal eat Oatmeal, Cream of Rice or Grits
Obadiah: Eat fruit for snacks
