The Sound Steps Walking Program

The purpose of Sound Steps Walking Project is: To improve the health and wellness of senior adults 50 and better throughout the Greater Seattle area by establishing a community-based walking program designed to encourage physical activity and social interaction.

Are you:
50 years or better? Needing to get active? Wanting a free, supported walking program?
Then Sound Steps is for you!

Sound Steps is a volunteer supported walking program with Seattle Parks and Recreation, Senior Adult Programs.
This program is designed to get senior adults moving and gaining the health benefits of regular exercise.

Participants in this FREE, year-round program are connected to other walkers on their level and given tools to measure progress. Encouragement comes from the support of volunteer walk leaders and regular check-ins.

Sound Steps has 27 walking groups associated with senior centers, churches throughout Seattle. There are two indoor walking programs in White Center. Walks vary from easy to two hour hikes.

This year participants joined in the SeaFair Half Marathon and the Mother’s Day Walk from the Rainier Beach Community Center

SOUND STEPS ½ MARATHON TESTIMONIALS

I had never done anything like this before.

Mari made it really easy for us, if I had to figure it out how to get ready for a marathon myself I wouldn’t have done it. All we had to do was show up for the trainings and be there on the day.

I listened to Carolyn’s talk about how she had walked a 26 mile marathon on her 70
th birthday and thought if she could do that I should be able to walk a half marathon, and I did!

I really got in better shape

It was fun meeting new people, it’s really important to keep trying new things.

It was wonderful doing the ½ marathon with my daughter and grand daughter.
